We plan to remove the workspace feature in the next version of Floorp, Floorp 12. Since this feature was a maker of problems that impacted users, we will make the grouping feature again with the experience we gained during the implementation of the PWA feature.
The migration period will be 6 months (until the release of Floorp 12)
This article explains migrating Workspaces to the “simple Tab Groups” add-on.
No need to migrate now! You can continue to use workspaces for 6 months!
1. How to migrate Workspace to Simple Tab Groups
Simple Tab Groups is an add-on Mozilla recommends and runs well on Floorp 11.
We strongly recommend migrating to this add-on.
- Functions that can be used/restored after migration
- Grouped tabs.
- Workspace container feature info (Migrated to “always open tabs in container”).
- Icons of Workspaces
- State of Tab’s container
2. Generating STG backup file
This step is necessary because you will be using the Simple Tab Groups backup feature to restore your information. To access the workspace settings, follow these steps.
“Preferences (about:preferences)」→ “Workspaces Settings (about:preferences#workspaces)”
At the bottom of “Workspace Settings” there is a field called “Workspaces Migration Tools”. Click “Generate…” next to “Migrate to Simple Tab Groups” at the bottom.
Please Check a file has been generated on your desktop that called “floorp-workspace-backup.json”
3. Disable Workspaces and restart Floorp
Disable the Workspace feature in Settings and restart Floorp.
4. Install and setup STG
The generated backup file is saved on your desktop. (common to all platforms) This file contains data about tabs and tab groupings.
Please install the add-on from below. It may support your language.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/simple-tab-groups/
After installation, please follow the displayed instructions for initial setup. (only once in the first)
If the setup is finished, restore your data with the instructions below.
5. Restore tab groups from STG
RE NOTICE: Please check that all processing things have finished!
Please close any tabs currently open. (Because when the tab grouping is restored, tabs are also restored) You can also close them all at once from the tab’s context menu.
Access the add-on options page. It can also be accessed using the add-on manager (about:addons) or from the STG settings that appear when you click the add-on button.

Last step.
Access the “Backup your Simple Tab Groups” tab, click “Restore Simple Tab Groups from backup” displayed at the bottom, and select the file, “floorp-workspace-backup.json”, saved on your desktop, and restore it.

Tab Restoring is now complete. Some internal pages will not be restored (“about:” pages, such as “about:addons”)
Finished! You can start browsing.
